Confused about how to use SAP’s MDG-EAM and SAP’s Asset Information Workbench (AIW) capabilities with SAP’s Intelligent Asset Management solutions? Let’s discuss how the solutions complement each other to help organizations ensure complete, trustworthy, and accurate master data.

SAP’s Asset Intelligent Network (AIN) allows operators/owners of industrial assets to access vital information, documents, and metadata about the equipment they procure. This can happen because, among other capabilities, AIN is a repository for equipment manufacturers and vendors and provides an electronic medium to share technical asset information about their equipment models with operators/owners.

This technical information can be brought directly into the Change Request created in MDG-EAM or AIW. One of the most important aspects of this data transfer is the automatic population of the key class and characteristics that are essential in defining an equipment’s taxonomy since they are heavily used when searching, sorting and reporting on equipment. The MDG Change Request is further remediated through the business rules that an organization builds in MDG to verify each field of data required is entered correctly or derived from other data fields. The workflows for SMEs review and approval are spawned during the Change Request process, assuring that only the data as exactly intended is updated to the transactional ERP system(s) as well as to SAP’s Asset Central repository.
