The “top-down” method creates an overview of the data landscape, identifying all the data sources and applications that create or use data. Each data source is analyzed and defined in detail, describing the various objects and their inter-relationships. Business processes that create and manage data are also audited to understand the impact of such processes on the quality of data.
Our “bottom-up” approach gathers insights on the health of existing data across the enterprise. A thorough analysis of the various data objects is undertaken (using our Data Health Check™ methodology) with a view to examine level of completeness, consistency, conformity and duplication in the existing data. This approach provides a baseline from which to build recommendations for data definitions, data transformation and data governance.
