Most issues with master data are along one of four dimensions. In many cases these are not mutually exclusive meaning that the data suffers from a combination of the four rather than a single issue.

It’s not just simple data entry errors. How data is maintained as well as data creation rules are important. Interestingly, bad data can even be the result of previously “good” data that is moved from a stand-alone system to an integrated environment with new expectations and requirements.
