The Devil is in the Data

Managing and maintaining plants, assets and equipment can make or break your bottom line. Orchestrating service maintenance, MRO materials procurement, optimizing inventory levels and sustaining plant knowledge with an aging workforce are all key elements for EAM.

This presentation will showcase an oil and gas company’s EAM business problem and how the solution was effectively framed around data, business processes, and ERP optimization using the “Top Down, Bottom Up” EDLM approach.

Key Takeaways:

  • How to break down an asset management business issue into actionable components like business process improvements, data quality/governance and ERP optimization
  • The significance of a “Bottom Up” approach by uncovering the  significant issues, and the skills required to successfully conduct the effort, estimate timelines, and approximate costs
  • How to use business metrics to frame a business issue, establish a baseline and measure improvement

Data Migration, Removing the Risk

As you prepare to embark on an ERP implementation or upgrade an existing system, you have a lot to juggle and plan.  You know the horror stories of go-lives going bad but you are not sure on how to avoid the pitfalls.  ASUG studies validate that 93% of projects are delayed, incur cost over runs and are significantly impacted by data issues.   Join the 7% club with Utopia!

We’ll share with you the traits of successful data migration efforts.  We’ll outline the methodology and how to leverage SAP® Business Objects™ Data Services software and EIM solutions for the go-live and beyond.  You’ll learn from real life examples on how to avoid some common (and costly) pitfalls and ensure your business is ready for a successful go-live.

Legacy Data Migration to SAP ECC, A Practitioner’s Methodology

Acquiring and deploying an ERP or MDM solution is just the beginning to mastering your data and creating an enterprise data infrastructure to carry your organization through the 21st century. The system needs to be populated with master data, and the data migration process needs to be sustainable for the feeds into the system. This presentation will discuss the benefits of obtaining a single cleansed and unified source of master information, and how SAP Business Objects Data Services can be used as the platform for delivering the cleansed data into SAP ECC. In the presentation we will show key process steps in a data migration such as using a master migration template, data profiling, source to target SAP mapping validations, exception handling, cleansing and de-duplication of master data, and creation of output master records in LSMW format ready for SAP ECC upload.

Key Takeaways:

  • A methodology to efficiently implement a data migration project
  • How SAP Business Objects Data Services suite can be used as a platform to conduct end-to-end vendor master migration, from source extraction to target insertion into SAP ECC6.0
  • How to leverage SAP Business Objects Data Services workflows to extend the data migration methodology to other data domains
  • How to manage data exceptions during the migration process caused by transformation of legacy data and reject records in the target system

Avoiding the Common Pitfalls of Data Migration Projects

Many of the horror stories of bad ERP implementations begin with a poor understanding of data migration. Discuss with your peers the data migration pitfalls to avoid and ideas on how to lower ERP implementation cycle times and costs. Examples will be provided from various data migration projects.
